New Guys From Kansas

Gents & Ladies - Hello from Kansas. I have a "team" of fellow riders that usually ride in Colorado, but due to conflicts in schedules, we are not going to be able to ride with our 30 or so buddies mid-September. So, we are going to come your way and try a new riding area in October depending on responses to this inquiry. We ride two and four-wheelers and prefer challenging single track in the way of mountins. For the double track - we like moderate climbs, rocky sections and some water crossing (not mud holes). Based on this information where would you recommend we first visit in Utah? In Colorado, we are used to 6 - 8 hour day rides averaging between 20 - 60 miles, so long trails and large open spaces are what we desire and I have been led to beleive that Arkansas is a new heaven for us that we need to explore. Our stay is usally 10 calendar days so we don't want to find ourselves in an area that we "ride out" in short order. We stay at 10,000 ft elevations in Colorado but late October would require us to be on snowmobiles, not round wheels. Any suggestions? I've read a couple of the threads on this site, but not found anything that directly points me to any one single area over another. Any healp would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Same question

Kirk,

I asked the same question and you see what I got. I know there is good riding at Wolf Pen Gap down around Mena. You could also go over to Bear Creek (Daisy State Park)and ride over there while down in that area. Then on over to the Superlift OHV park in Hot Springs. then work your way up into Russelville from there and go over to Brock Creek up around Jerusalem, maybe slide over to Moccassin Gap north of Dover and head back home via Mill Creek Trails north of Ozark around Cass. All of these places can be found on the Arkansas Forestry Service website.

KJ - Thanks for your response. I see what you mean. Using your suggestion, would I be trailering from place to place and then unlaoding and riding or are these riding areas small and connected and therefore doable in a day trip? I really don;t want to come down for a week plus event only to ride the area out in a day or two. Thoughts?

All of the riding in AR you would have to tailor from place to place. There is some good riding here but it is not Colorado so you would probable do best at Brock Creek and Moccassin Gap.

In addition to what Chris said, the Mill Creek Trail System (on White Rock Mountain, northwest of Cass and south of Combs off hwy16) is only about an hour and a half west of Brock Creek and Moccasin Gap.

I heartily endorse both Mill Creek and Brock Creek. (Brock Creek has designated single track and additionally plenty of atv trails. These trails are marked and the intersections are signed. Looking at the map on this pdf brochure, you can see both the designated bike and the atv rated trails are shown differently.)

We've been hosting a winter fun riding get-together for a few days in February the last couple of years at Brock Creek. Come join us in about 8 months for next year's gathering.

They are real mountain trails; just not so high up. Some of them at Brock Creek are pretty gnarly. However, the air will be thick and full of oxygen; so you can breathe and your bike will make good power.
